FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- March 10, 2009 -- Coos Head Food Store, North Bend, OR is recalling Mt Hood Trail Mix, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The Mt Hood Trail Mix was manufactured using peanut products recalled by Peanut Corporation of America because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
Mt Hood Trail Mix was distributed by Glory Bee Foods, in Eugene, OR to Coos Head Food Store’s retail location, North Bend, OR. The product was repackaged and sold in the bulk section of the retail store.
The Mt Hood Trail Mix was packaged in random weights, 4”x6” plastic zip lock bags. The product was labeled “MT. HOOD MIX8818”, does not have a UPC code, and has the sell by and packed on date from JAN 1.07 thru AUG 31.08.
No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product/these products. The recall was initiated after it was determined that the peanut product received was manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America. Coos Head Food Store has informed FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency.
Consumers who have purchased the Mt Hood Trail Mix are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may call 541-756-7264 (M-F 9-7 Sat 10-6 Sun 12-5 Pacific Time).
