Coblentz Chocolate Company Recalls Items Because of Possible Health Risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --February 6, 2009 -- Coblentz Chocolate Company of Walnut Creek, OH is recalling its 10 oz. and 12 oz. packages of Bridge Mix, Chocolate Bridge Mix, Chocolate Peanuts, No Sugar Added Chocolate Peanuts, and No Sugar Added Bridge Mix, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurism), endocarditis and arthritis.

The recalled items listed above were distributed to select retail outlets.

The product comes in either a clear plastic bag or a clear tub.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The potential for contamination was noted after our supplier of this product notified us of its potential source.
