FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- February 2, 2009 -- Buck's Ice Cream of Milford, CT is voluntarily recalling its French Vanilla Ice Cream Nut Roll, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

This recall is a result of the recall by Peanut Corporation of America of peanut butter products which is the focus of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigation into potential salmonella contamination of peanut products.

The Nut Roll was distributed in Connecticut to restaurants and banquet facilities from January 2007 to January 2009.

Nut Roll is packaged in a white corrugated cardboard box with blue and red printing that is approximately 8.5"x11.5"~5" and contains 24 - 402. portions per box. It is labeled as "FRENCH VANILLA ICE CREAM NUT ROLL".

No illnesses have been reported to date.

Customers who have purchased Nut Roll should immediately return the product to Buck's for a full refund, or contact Buck's at 888-22-BUCKS for further information.
