FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Ada, MI -- February 4, 2009 -- Amway Global is initiating a voluntary recall of the XS Energy Bar Chocolate Nut Roll as a result of Peanut Corporation of America’s expansion of their recall of peanut products back to January 2007.  Amway Global has taken this voluntary step as a precaution while the FDA continues its investigation into PCA’s activities and salmonella contamination.

Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

XS Energy Bar Chocolate nut roll is no longer distributed by Amway Global but reports from our vendor suggest it may have been manufactured using contaminated material from PCA produced during the recall period.  No reports of illness have been reported in connection to the above product.

NUTRILITE and XS energy bars were sold nationwide through direct sales. The products, SKUs, and manufacturing lots are being recalled are:

XS Energy Bar:

The lot numbers appear on both the carton and the individual bar wraps. No other NUTRILITE or Amway Global products are involved in the recall.

Replacement products will be available for the Nutrilite energy bars within the next few weeks, made with a peanut paste source from another vendor not involved in the investigation.

Customers and IBOs who have purchased products with these lot numbers should discard the product and may call Customer Support with any question.  In keeping with our satisfaction guarantee, we will replace the product or refund the purchase price.  Amway Global Customer Support may be contacted at: 800-253-6500 [M-Fri 8 am to midnight and Sat. 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST or at Customer.support@amwayglobal.com.
