2008 ICE Annual Report Cover

Careers

As the largest investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a law enforcement agency. Our mission is to protect America and uphold public safety by targeting the people, money and materials that support terrorist and criminal activities. ICE enforces the nation’s customs and immigration laws and provides security for federal buildings.

Our enforcement mission is carried out by a wide variety of law enforcement, security and intelligence professionals - all of whom have the opportunity to make a personal contribution to the safety and security of our country. In addition to the core law enforcement occupations, there are also hundreds of professional and administrative functions that support the ICE mission. ICE has approximately 15,000 employees working in 400 offices nationwide and over 50 locations internationally.

Criminal Investigators (Special Agent)

At the present time, ICE is not actively recruiting for entry-level Criminal Investigators (Special Agents). Once recruiting commences again, entry-level Criminal Investigators will be recruited through direct contact with Special Agent Recruiters located with each of ICE’s Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Offices. These vacancies will not be posted on the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) USA Jobs Web site. If you are interested in becoming an ICE Criminal Investigator, contact the nearest Special Agent in Charge Office when we are actively recruiting and ask for the "Special Agent Recruiter." Main phone numbers for each ICE SAC Office are listed under Contact Us. If you meet the basic qualifications and if ICE is actively recruiting Special Agents, the recruiter will advise you of the next steps in the application process.
