U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) response to the H1N1 Flu outbreak

ICE is committed to meeting the health and safety needs of our employees as well as those individuals in our custody during this time of heightened concern regarding the H1N1 Flu outbreak.

Following Secretary Napolitano’s direction, ICE has pre-positioned personal protective equipment for its law enforcement and mission-critical personnel not only at the Southwest and Northern borders, but throughout the United States.  In addition, each detention facility used by ICE maintains a plan that addresses the management of infectious and communicable diseases, which includes cooperation with public health officials.

ICE is also ensuring that all employees, contractors and individuals in our custody are practicing the personal protective measures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In FY2007, as part of a larger emergency preparedness plan, ICE launched the Mobile Continuity of Operations Planning and Emergency Response Support Pilot Project, which entailed the deployment of a fleet of cargo trailers outfitted with basic supplies and equipment such as fuel containers, generators, tents, tools, potable water, food rations and other emergency supplies. These mobile trailers were pre-staged at various ICE offices throughout the country.
