Subject: NUG teleconference Thu Dec 15
Author: Francesca Verdier <fverdier_at_lbl.gov>
Date: 2005-12-14 15:37:48
The next NUG teleconference is this Thursday, December 15 at 9:00 am Pacific Time. On the agenda: Contributed by David Dean: 1-- How is bassi doing (what performance levels are people seeing) and what is the timeline on acceptance and general use? 2--Now that the regular ERCAP resources have been allocated, a report on that process (allocated hours vs requested hours, etc.) would be good. 3--What is the status of INCITE for FY06 (does any one know)? Contributed by Stephane Ethier and David Mikkelsen: Discuss issues of job scheduling on Jacquard: PBS Pro tends to fill up the machine with small jobs and leave larger jobs (even 32 CPUs is large in this context) waiting for days or weeks. The long term solution is probably to get a better scheduler (as we plan to do at PPPL). The only short-term solution I can see is to divide the cluster into groups with different minimum job sizes. The number of nodes in each group could be adjusted (on a weekly basis?) to match the mix of jobs submitted. To be concrete: I propose that 240 nodes be moved into a new queue that has a minimum job size of 16 nodes.
