3. FDA Science Forum

   The next FDA Science Forum is tentatively scheduled for 2009

   2006 FDA Science Forum:   A Century of FDA Science: Pioneering the Future of Public Health
   April 18-20, 2006, Washington Convention Center

   The Science Forum is FDA's key scientific meeting that seeks to communicate and promote emerging issues relating to scientific development and associated regulatory concerns. Open to the public, the 2006 Forum is designed to bring FDA scientists together with representatives from other components of DHHS, industry, academia, government agencies, consumer and patient advocacy groups, Congress, international constituents, and many more stakeholders.
   
   Participants will learn, network, collaborate, and discuss issues in in areas related to FDA's Critical Path Initiatives and other areas of scientific investigation within the Agency. A poster session open to both FDA and non-FDA Presenters will provide an excellent opportunity for information exchange; and, the annual FDA Scientific Achievement Awards will be announced at this event.

     Using Biology against Bioterrorism: Pathogens themselves have natural enemies, have natural means to sample bacteria or virus and are the evolutionary target of biological systems to overcome the effect of the pathogen. Some of these strategies will be discussed relative to their exploitation in combating bioterrorism.

      The FDAAA was founded in 2001 by a small group of FDA alumni and employees. The Association originated from a very basic idea: to keep former FDA employees "connected" to the important work of our agency and to maintain collegial bonds among former FDA colleagues. The idea quickly gained traction and people from within and outside FDA - administrators, managers, scientists, engineers, investigators, lawyers and others - enthusiastically came together to give form and substance to the organization. Their vision and hard work resulted in the establishment of a non-profit Association, whose membership is open to all current and former employees.
