About COGs
The DMIS user community is organized as Collaborative Operating Groups (COGs). COGs represent organizations at all levels of emergency response including:
- Local
- Tribal
- Regional
- State
- Federal
COG Administration
COG Administrators are a key to a successful DMIS Tools installation. With guidance from decision-makers, COG Administrators generally "lead the way" in the installation and maintenance of DMIS Tools within an organization. COG Administrator responsibilities are:
- Register for the COG or if needed, a group of COGs
- Acquire the DMIS Tools software
- Configure computers for COGs
- Create and maintain Operator accounts
- Create roles and privileges in Operator accounts
- Set and change passwords
- Deactivate Operators
- Run administrative reports
The following course is recommended for DMIS COG Administrators:
COG Planning
COG Planners set the course for DMIS Tools adoption and configuration within the organization. One of the great things about DMIS Tools is that they are very flexible. You can select options to ensure that the software is working for you in the way you do your emergency response management. But first, you need to understand what the options are. To do that, COG Planners need to start by taking the Introduction to DMIS course and the first two lessons of the COG Cookbook course.
The following are links to all the course materials recommended for DMIS COG Planners:
- Introduction to DMIS, (PPT, 1645 KB)
- COG Cookbook Introduction, (PPT, 260 KB)

Job Aids
The following job aids may be helpful to both COG Planners in deciding how to organize the COG, and to COG Administrators in implementing those decisions. For a demonstration of how to use these Job Aids, see the DMIS SIG Presentations Archive.
