HazCollect Training

HazCollect Principles and NWEM Best Practices

Before applying for HazCollect access, all prospective applicants must satisfactorily complete the training course HazCollect Principles and Non-weather Emergency Messages Best Practices. The course is comprised of five chapters including:

  • HazCollect Overview
  • NWEM Message Types
  • NWEM Data Elements
  • Warning Best Practices
  • Implementing HazCollect

The training is self-paced and is estimated to take two to three hours to complete. A series of Job Aids is included to assist you with your HazCollect implementation. A brief final test is required to demonstrate proficiency.

The training is provided in three formats - online, ZIP file for local installation, PDF file for printable version -- all hosted from the MetED Learning Management System, operated by the Cooperative Program for Operational Meteorology, Education and Training (COMET ®) Program. The final test must be completed online, and instructions for accessing the test and reporting results are provided within the training.

If you have previously registered with MetEd, you will be redirected to the MetEd home page for log in. If you have not previously registered, you may access the registration from the log in page. Please note that your browser must allow cookies in order to use the MetEd system. If you take the training online or via local installation, you will also need to disable any pop up blocker.

Using DMIS Tools for HazCollect NWEMs

A two part training series has been developed for DMIS Desktop Tools, which concentrates on the essentials for deploying and using DMIS to author and transmit NWEMs.

The next offering of this course online via Live Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, 3:00 PM EDT, (Part 1) and Tuesday, May 26, 3:00 PM EDT, (Part 2). To request an invitation, please email DMIS@eyestreet.com.
