INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Eight days after President Obama issued a major disaster declaration for Indiana, nearly $734,000 in disaster assistance grants have been approved. Federal and state recovery officials announced that today a total of 464 residents have applied for disaster assistance in the 13 designated Indiana counties.

The following is an update of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) recovery activities as of close of business Thursday, April 30.

Federal and state officials urge homeowners, renters and businesses affected by the severe storms and flooding March 8 - 14, to apply immediately by calling 1-800-621-FEMA or for those with hearing or visual impairments call TTY 1-800-462-7585. The FEMA registration/helpline numbers are operational everyday from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. (EDT), seven days a week. On-line registration is available at www.disasterassistance.gov., 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

For more information about SBA call the SBA Customer Service Center from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. (EDT) Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (EDT), Saturday, at 1-800-659-2955 for information and assistance.  Victims may apply online at disasterloan.sba.gov/ela/. Applicants also may visit the SBA Web site at www.sba.gov or by e-mailing disastercustomerservice@sba.gov.
