Rocky Mountain Foods, Inc. Recalls Whole Foods Markets Roasted Salted In-shell Pistachios, Roasted Chili Lemon Pistachios, and Raw Pistachio Kernels Due to Possible Health Risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- DENVER, CO –DENVER, CO – April 9, 2009 – As a result of the expansion of the voluntary recall of roasted shelled and in-shell pistachios announced by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc.on April 6, 2009, Rocky Mountain Foods, Inc (RMF) announced today that it is voluntary recalling tubs of Whole Foods Markets Roasted & Salted In-shell Pistachios, Roasted Chili Lemon Pistachios, and Raw Pistachio Kernels, which are listed below, as a precautionary measure because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella.

To date, the Company has not received any confirmed reports of illnesses in connection with the items listed below.

Consumers who have recently purchased the items listed below should not consume this product and should return it to the store of purchase for a full refund or replacement.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. Item Description:

The pistachios have been packaged under the Whole Foods Markets Brand exclusively in Whole Foods Markets retail stores.  The Roasted Chili Lemon Pistachios have been distributed to CA, AZ, NV, HI, CO, KS, NM, UT.  The Roasted & Salted In-Shell Pistachios have been distributed to LA, TX, AR, OK, CO, KS, NM, UT.  The Raw Pistachio Kernels have been distributed to CA, AZ, NV, HI, LA, TX, AR, OK, CO, KS, NM, UT.
