FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- March 13, 2009 -- Kerry Ingredients & Flavours of BELOIT, WI announced an expanded recall of products containing peanuts. This is a precautionary measure resulting from the PCA (Peanut Corporation of America) expanded recall for all products manufactured in their Plainview, TX facility as it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
Salmonella is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
This expanded recall includes one new product, Peanut Butter with Peanuts – Classic Bake ‘n” Serve, and additional lots of Jana’s Peanut Butter Cookie items previously recalled. These products were sold to distributors in California, Oregon and Wisconsin and one food bank located in Oregon.

The Classic Bake ‘n’ Serve products were distributed frozen, packaged in a blue poly liner within a corrugated case with a label reading KERRY CLASSIC BAKE ‘N’ SERVE H10622.94, 64 Count/2.25 oz.
The Jana’s Peanut Butter Cookies were packaged in clear clamshell containers with a black and white label stating Peanut Butter Cookie with Peanut, as well as a nutritional facts panel. At the bottom of this panel it states Made by: Kerry Inc. Tualatin OR. The first five digits of the code printed on the back or side of the clamshell match the first five digits of the above lot numbers. These products are further labeled by stores in which they are sold; therefore labeling may contain the store name and/or brand name.
The company has not received any consumer illness complaints about these products; however we are taking this precautionary step to safeguard our customers and consumers. The recall was initiated after it was determined that the peanuts used to manufacture these products were manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America. Kerry Ingredients & Flavours is working closely with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration in the recall of these products.
Any customer in possession of this product should provide lot number and quantity information to Scott Langston, Director of Quality Assurance and Technical Services at (608) 363-1357, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (CST), and then destroy the product.
