FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Dover, NJ -- April 7, 2009 --- International Foodsource in cooperation with FDA is voluntarily recalling certain pistachio products because they may have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. International Foodsource initiated the voluntary recall in response to the expanded recall by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. The FDA and other regulatory agencies have been investigating Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. due to the potential contamination with the Salmonella organism. The FDA has advised that pistachios produced by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. from crop year 2008 are subject to recall.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
