FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Belmont, MA -- April 10, 2009 --- Eastern Lamejun Bakers is conducting a voluntary recall of its 0.75 – 1.00 pound packages of its "Pistachio Nuts California." This voluntary recall is being conducted as a precautionary measure due to the fact that Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella has expanded their recall to include all roasted, shelled and in-shell Pistachio Nuts from the 2008 crop year because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The recalled “Pistachio Nuts California” were sold to retail consumers at the Eastern Lamejun Bakers retail store located at 145 Belmont St, Belmont, MA 02478. The product was packaged in a plastic bag with a twist tie and is labeled as “California Pistachio Nuts, 136” and weighs anywhere between 0.75 and 1.00 pounds.

Eastern Lamejun Bakers has not received any consumer or customer complaints on this product and there have been no reported illnesses associated with this product. The product should not be consumed, but rather returned to the store for a refund or exchange.

Consumers who may have questions or concerns can call Eastern Lamejun Bakers at 617-484-5239.
