The Aeronautics Science and Technology Subcommittee (ASTS) of the
Committee on Technology (COT) of the National Science and Technology
Council (NSTC) advises and assists the COT of the NSTC with the
development of policies, strategies, and plans relating to federally
sponsored aeronautics research. The ASTS is co-chaired by NASA and the
Office of Science and Technology Policy and is made up representatives
from the Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Commerce (DOC),
Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Homeland Security (DHS),
Department of State (DOS), Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA), Joint Planning & Development Office
(JPDO), National Science Foundation (NSF), U.S. International Trade
Commission (USITC), Council of Economic Advisors (CEA), Domestic Policy
Council (DPC), National Security Council (NSC), Office of Management and
Budget (OMB), Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), Office of
the Vice President (OVP) and Office of the U.S. Trade Representative
(USTR).
The ASTS was essential in the development of the National Aeronautics
Research and Development Policy (implemented by Executive Order (EO)
13419) and the National Plan for Aeronautics Research and Development
and Related Infrastructure. The Subcommittee will continue its
activities in a sustained effort to advance the Nation’s technological
leadership in aeronautics.
Latest News
The National Plan for Aeronautics Research & Development and Related
Infrastructure was approved by the President on December 21, 2007 and is
now available online.
The ASTS is currently writing an Appendix to the Plan which will contain
additional technical content on aeronautics R&D goals and objectives and
a preliminary assessment of current relevant Federal aeronautics R&D
activities. This Appendix will be completed by 31 December 2008.
