The National Park Foundation Is A Proud Sponsor of The National Parks: America’s Best Idea
Airing September 2009 on PBS
The National Park Foundation is proud to be a major funder of the new Ken Burns documentary series, The National Parks: America’s Best Idea and congratulates Florentine Films and WETA for producing this historic film at a time when our nation can benefit most from re-discovering its heritage.
The 12-hour, six-part documentary series, directed by Burns and co-produced with his longtime friend and colleague, Dayton Duncan, who also wrote the script, is the story of how America’s National Parks came to be – focusing on the human story of people from every conceivable background who were shaped by the landscaped and in turn devoted their lives to ensuring that the most special places in our country would be preserved for all future generations of Americans.

“We are delighted as a sponsor to help Ken bring his magnificent talent to the story of our national parks and to make that connection with the public as only he can do,” said Vin Cipolla, Vice Chair of the National Park Foundation. “This film will transform the way the public views the national parks and will inspire hundreds of thousands of newcomers to fall in love with our national parks for the first time.”
The National Parks: America’s Best Idea chronicles a century of giving that was responsible for the creation and endowment of this uniquely American innovation. As a former director of the National Park Foundation Board, Dayton Duncan knows from experience how to inspire the private sector to get involved. The National Park Foundation continues to work with public-private partners at the national, state, and local level to strengthen the public dialogue around the future of our parks as we prepare them for their next century of greatness.
Cipolla said, “This film is a true celebration of America’s Best Idea and should be required viewing for everyone in our country. You can’t watch this film and not be moved to do your part for our national parks.”
