Mental health/behavioral health officers in the Commissioned Corps work throughout the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and in other Federal agencies and programs. Positions in the Corps include:

  • Psychiatrist
  • Psychologist
  • Clinical social worker
  • Mental health nurse/nurse practitioner
  • Mental health physician assistant

Mental health/behavioral health officers in the Corps:

  • Provide direct mental health and substance abuse prevention services.
  • Manage behavior health programs for entire communities.
  • Carry out Federal public health missions.
  • Conduct behavioral health research and pharmacological regulation.
  • Respond to local, regional, and national public health disasters and emergencies.
  • Provide mental health support to Commissioned Corps officers and other Federal responders to national disasters and emergencies.
