Dear NERSC Users, NERSC will offer a series of presentations highlighting Bassi, the IBM POWER 5 p575 system on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 . Online participation is available via a web conference, RealVideo streaming, and a teleconference. A web conference consists of a telephone conference, a web-based tool that controls slide display, and a text-based chat window. Please register by Wednesday, June 7 to reserve a spot. We must make advance arrangements to accommodate more than 20 remote attendees. NERSC is charged per connection, so we ask that remote participants from a single site gather in one location and use only a single connection if possible. Please register at the following URL (The sessions are being held in conjunction with the NERSC Users' Group Meeting at Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory): https://www.nersc.gov/about/NUG/meeting_info/June06/reg_form.php To register for the training day only, chose "Days: Tue., June 13 (Training)" and "I will attend: Remotely: " The agenda is available at the URL: https://www.nersc.gov/about/NUG/meeting_info/June06/ *Scheduled Presentations * 09:00 EDT (06:00 PDT) - Bassi Overview and Status: a high-level description of the system, its configuration, processors, interconnect, file systems, and software. 09:45 EDT (06:45 PDT) - POWER5 processor and Bassi node overview: POWER 5 basics, differences from POWER 3, node configuration, memory layout, processor and memory affinity. 10:45 EDT (07:45 PDT) - The High Speed Interconnect and Switch: getting the most out of HPS - network characteristics (MPI & LAPI latency, bandwidth), runtime performance settings, network topology, differences from Seaborg. 11:30 EDT (08:30 PDT) - Compiling for Performance on Bassi: AIX Fortran, C, C++; recommended compiler options, useful compiler options, libraries, porting from Seaborg and Linux clusters. 13:30 EDT (10:30 PDT) - Benchmark Performance on Bassi: performance is compared to Seaborg, Jacquard, and a variety of other HPC platforms. 14:15 EDT (11:15 PDT) - Experiences Configuring, Debugging, Validating and Running on Bassi. 15:15 EDT (12:15 PDT) - High Level File Storage and Parallel I/O for Fusion Applications using ParallelHDF5. (Individual presentations may be repeated at another time and date if there is demand. You may reply to this e-mail to request a repeat; please indicate your preferences for times and days of the week.)
