Mental health/behavioral health officers in the Commissioned Corps work throughout the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and in other Federal agencies and programs. Positions in the Corps include:
- Psychiatrist

- Clinical social worker
- Mental health nurse/nurse practitioner
- Mental health physician assistant
Mental health/behavioral health officers in the Corps:
- Provide direct mental health and substance abuse prevention services.
- Manage behavior health programs for entire communities.
- Carry out Federal public health missions.
- Conduct behavioral health research and pharmacological regulation.
- Respond to local, regional, and national public health disasters and emergencies.
- Provide mental health support to Commissioned Corps officers and other Federal responders to national disasters and emergencies.
