Transferring Knowledge, Creating Best Practices, and Transforming Parks
Access to and adaptation of the latest research and techniques in the conservation fields are key to helping parks become models for innovation. This process is facilitated through the exchange of ideas between government, corporate, and private sector professionals in parks. The conservation and research piece of the National Park Foundation seeks to connect nongovernmental and national park professionals in knowledge interchange experiences that will transform the way parks operate in the next century.
Programs funded in the conservation and research area allow external experts to enhance the work of experienced national park staff and their partners. Skilled conservationists throughout the Western Hemisphere protect international migratory bird species and habitats through Park Flight, and transportation professionals apply their skills to help parks develop sustainable transportation solutions that reduce traffic congestion, air and noise pollution through the Transportation Scholars Program. Through the Albright-Wirth Grant Program, National Park Service staff receive the training they require to become experts in fields that directly benefit their park.
