The Nearby Supernova Factory (SNfactory) is an experiment to develop Type Ia supernovae as tools to measure the expansion history of the Universe and explore the nature of Dark Energy. It is the largest data volume supernova search currently in operation.

The SNfactory is an international collaboration between several groups in the United States and France, including Lawrence Berkeley Lab and Yale University in the United States and the LPNHE, IPNL and CRAL IN2P3/CNRS labs in France. (For a full list of collaboration members, please see the Staff page.) The experiment is designed to address a wide range of supernova issues using detailed observations of low-redshift SN.

On September 20, 2008 the number of
spectroscopically-confirmed supernovae
discovered by the SNfactory surpassed 600!
