Subject:	Major NERSC Outage October 30

Greetings NERSC User, There will be a major outage of all NERSC systems beginning the morning of Monday, October 30, and lasting up to 48 hours. Please note that the above date is 1 week from today. This outage will affect all NERSC systems, including the MPP compute platforms, HPSS, PDSF, NGF, and the NERSC website. A preliminary schedule for shutting down these systems may be found at: http://www.nersc.gov/nusers/announcements/power06.php The most important thing to notice about this schedule is that all batch computing will be complete by 04:00 on the morning of October 30. HPSS access will be blocked at this time, both from within NERSC and from sites outside NERSC. Interactive access to specific NERSC compute platforms may be available for a few hours after this. After 04:00, users should not depend on any advance notice before the machines are powered down.
