Subject: Please backup your files to HPSS

Dear NERSC SP Users, Please remember that there are no user-requested file restores available on seaborg. This includes your home directory as well as scratch space. You should backup your files to HPSS, preferably in large chunks (on the order of a gigabyte tarball, for example), rather than a multitude of small files. See "man tar" on seaborg if you are not familiar with the tar utility. There are backups of entire file systems for disaster recovery, but not for individual file restore requests. Please refer to http://hpcf.nersc.gov/storage/ibm/ for more info.
