Subject:	[Users] Bassi and Jacquard plans

Dear NERSC Users, NERSC has started a Linux cluster procurement to replace Bassi and Jacquard. More details on this procurement will be communicated once the Request for Proposals has been posted. Plans for decommissioning these machines are: Bassi will be decommissioned after the end of this allocation year (which ends January 11, 2010). Jacquard will be fully supported through June 9, 2009, and then will be available at least through August 2009 with limited support, meaning: * no further software upgrades except those needed for security reasons, * failed hardware will not be replaced, * can be decommissioned with 30 days advance notice to the user community.
