NASA's newest observatory, the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, has begun its mission of exploring the universe in high-energy gamma rays. The spacecraft and its revolutionary instruments passed their orbital checkout with flying colors.

Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope is an international and multi-agency mission planned for launch in early 2008. It will study the cosmos looking at objects that emit high energy wavelengths of light.
