Klein Bros. Holdings, Ltd., Snack and Packaged Nut Division is conducting a nationwide Recall of the Following Arroyo Seco Trail Mixes Due to Possible Health Risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- March 31, 2009 – Klein Bros. Holdings Ltd., Snack Division of Stockton, CA Is recalling several of our Arroyo Seco Trail Mixes that contain roasted salted peanuts which have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The mixes were manufactured using peanuts recalled by Peanut Corporation of America’s Plainview, Texas facility.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail Or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more serious illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

These products were distributed through wholesalers in California, Oregon and Washington. Product was sold to consumers through retail stores. We have instructed our wholesale customers to notify their retail accounts and ensure all Arroyo Seco Mixes are removed from store shelves immediately.

No illnesses have been reported to date for this product.

On February 12, 2009, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) issued an Emergency Closure Order and a Recall Order for the Plainview, TX location of Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). The recall order affects all products shipped from the Plainview, TX location of PCA since its inception in March 2005. The order includes any products shipped by PCA and any products containing PCA products as ingredients.

Consumers who have purchased the above items should immediately discontinue usage and contact Klein Bros., Snack Division for product handling instructions.
