National Symposium on Compensatory Mitigation and the Watershed Approach

The Federal agencies working on the National Mitigation Action Plan (MAP) and the Environmental Law Institute (ELI) hosted a symposium on compensatory mitigation and the watershed approach in Washington, DC on May 19-21, 2004. Approximately 40 participants from academia and federal, regional, state, and local governments and organizations provided input on watershed-based planning tools and resources that can be used to make compensatory mitigation decisions under §404 of the Clean Water Act. The symposium presentations and discussions will provide valuable insight to the MAP workgroup as they pursue the 2005 action item of developing guidance to address compensatory mitigation in a watershed context.
