Female Graduates - HomepageMilitary Spouse Scholarship Application Now Available

NMFA's Joanne Holbrook Patton Military Spouse Scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000, are awarded to spouses of Uniformed Services members to obtain professional certification or to attend post-secondary or graduate school. The scholarship funds may be used to assist with tuition, fees, and school room and board, and are paid directly to the accredited educational institution involved. Applications are due by midnight February 1, 2009. This year, we are pleased to offer three scholarship categories. Click here for more information or to submit an application.

 

 VA Payment to Surviving Spouses

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced immediate actions to quickly identify and pay surviving spouses who are eligible to receive a one-time compensation or pension payment for the month of the veteran’s death. The VA recently learned of a problem in which some surviving spouses did not receive a compensation or pension payment they should have received from the month of a veteran’s death. VA has identified nearly 11,000 surviving spouses of deceased veterans who will receive payments to correct the error and is continuing to look for other eligible survivors.<<more>>

 Board of Governors Approves 2009 Issues & Actions

The National Military Family Association’s Board of Governors has approved the three major issue areas that the Association will champion in 2009. Just as it has for the past 40 years, the National Military Family Association will respond to the needs of military families and work towards sustaining a firm foundation of support for military families - the Nation’s families.

 Experts Gather for Second Annual NMFA Youth Initiatives Summit
“Research, Policy, Action”

The National Military Family Association (NMFA) hosted its second Youth Summit: “Research, Policy, Action.” The Summit gathered 18 experts from different fields that were featured in a series of panel discussions.

With the goal of sharing resources and moving forward to aggressively address the issues facing military children, NMFA brought together leaders from the military and civilian community, OSD and DoD, and non-profit and civic groups alike. <<more>>

 NMFA Recognizes Outstanding Volunteers

These volunteers have demonstrated outstanding service that contributes to improving the quality of life in their military and/or neighboring communities. Due to the challenges of the current pace of military operations, volunteers play a critical role in providing support and stability in their communities.
