Francis Lee, M.D., Ph.D.
Weill Cornell Medical College

Dr. Francis Lee was recently presented with the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, the highest honor bestowed by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. The award recognizes Dr. Lee for his innovative studies of biomarkers for affective disorders, which has been supported by NARSAD Young Investigator grants in 2002 and 2005. His research on brain proteins called neurotrophins suggests that a patient’s genetic makeup determines how well he or she responds to certain antidepressants, making it possible that one day a simple blood test will tell doctors what kinds of drugs will work — or not work — for a particular person.
