New "Devices Center" Opening Soon

In just a few weeks, we'll be opening an all-new Devices Center at our office in Lower Manhattan. Come and try out truly ingenious assistive listening devices that help you live and communicate better inside and outside your home. You'll learn about special phones with amplification and captions, a wireless headset that allows you to hear your television better, a doorbell that uses flashing lights to signal a visitor, and an alarm clock that creates a vibration under your pillow. These are just a few of the items you can experience for yourself in group demonstrations available to the public beginning in May.

For more information about the Devices Center, email us at info@chchearing.org

or phone us at (917) 305-7930. Beginning in May, free group demonstrations will be offered every Thursday from 2:00-3:30pm. Walk-ins are welcome at that time.

The Center's Adolescent and Early Childhood Art Workshops were held March 8th and March 22nd at the Museum of Modern Art. Children and their parents enjoyed an interactive guided tour of the museum and then gathered in MoMA's private studio space to create art of their own and get to know one another. With the aid of assistive listening technology, all the kids were engaged throughout the session, communicating opinions and insights on the subjects of color, perspective and (no surprise) the role of imagination.

We thank our friends at MoMA for the care and knowledge they demonstrated with Center families. To see photos from the March 8th workshop, please click here and select slideshow. For photos from the March 22nd workshop, click here.

This program is presented in connection with the Family Resource Center of the League for the Hard of Hearing. We are grateful to The Bodman Foundation, the J. C. Kellogg Foundation, the Milbank Foundation for Rehabilitation, the Morgan Stanley Foundation/VIP Program, and The Thomas and Agnes Carvel Foundation for their generous support.
