Confirmed Cases of H1N1 Novel Influenza Infection in Minnesota (5/10/09 11:00 AM)

To date, the Minnesota Department of Health has identified 16 probable and two confirmed cases of the H1N1 novel influenza in Minnesota. All of the cases so far have been mild. More severe cases will likely appear as MDH focuses its testing on hospitalized cases.

While forms of influenza are present in pigs in Minnesota, the exact type that has been making people sick, H1N1 virus, has not been found in pigs any where in the world. This H1N1 hybrid virus has never been identified in swine.
