Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
The U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center (USACR/SAFETY CENTER) is the repository and release authority for Army safety accident reports prepared in accordance with Department of the Army Pamphlet 385-40, Army Accident Investigation and Reporting, and Army Regulation 385-10, the Army Safety Program. The USACRC Commander has been delegated authority to act as the Initial Denial Authority (IDA) on requests for information from Army safety accident reports.
Records will be made available consistent with applicable laws and regulations. Information will be withheld from the public only if authorized by 5 U.S.C. Section 552 (Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. Section 552a (Privacy Act), or other statutory or regulatory authority.
FOIA requests to the U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center (USACRC) may be submitted in writing, by fax, or e-mail. FOIA requesters who have any questions concerning the processing of their requests with the U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center should contact this center at (334) 255-2373. FOIA Processing Time Limits:
- Once an agency receives a correct FOIA request; it has 20 working days to make a determination on the request.
- In unusual circumstances, an agency will request an extension from the requester and inform the requester in writing why it needs the extension and when it will make a determination on the request.
- When a Component has a significant number of pending requests that prevent response determination being made within 20 working days, the requests shall be processed in a multitrack processing system, based on the date of receipt and the amount of work and time involved in processing the requests.
FOIA Requestor Appeal Rights:
- Requestors have the right to appeal all denial decisions
- Appeals must be submitted within 60 working days of the Initial Denial Letter
- Appeals must be sent through the office that initially denied the information
