The White House has named Paul F. Prouty as Acting Administrator for General Services Administration.

“I am honored to serve at this historic moment in our nation’s history,” Prouty said. “President Obama has outlined an ambitious agenda that GSA can help advance thanks to our role as the federal government’s landlord and best value supplier of goods and services to our client agencies.”

As GSA’s chief executive, Prouty will oversee agencywide operations for the Federal Acquisition Service, the Public Buildings Service, and various staff offices, including the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs.  Additionally, 11 regional offices extend GSA’s outreach to federal customers nationwide.

Prouty’s extensive government and business background includes his tenure as Assistant Regional Administrator within the Public Buildings Service in GSA’s Rocky Mountain Region as well as serving as Acting Administrator for GSA.  Prouty joined GSA in 1971 as a real estate intern in Denver, Colorado, eventually working to become director of the Real Estate Division in 1988.

Prouty received the GSA Distinguished Service Award in 1987 and 1998, and was named the Outstanding Federal Executive by the Greater Boston Federal Executive Board in 1997. In 2000, he received the Presidential Meritorious Rank Award.  Prouty holds undergraduate and masters degrees from the University of Colorado.
