- Dealer Report of Sale (green copy)
- Nevada Emission Vehicle Inspection Report.
(If
needed, this must be issued by the dealer)

Sales Taxes are paid to the dealer, based on the
actual sales price.
Vehicle must be registered before the expiration date on the placard
issued by the dealer.

Vehicles Purchased from an
Out-of-State Dealer

- Invoice or Bill of Sale, and one of the
following:
Title
Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin
Security Agreement
Lease Agreement
- Nevada Emission Vehicle Inspection Report ( if needed)
- VIN inspection

Sales Taxes - DMV will verify whatever
taxes were paid and charge any difference between that amount and what
would have been due in Nevada. Full Nevada taxes are due on vehicles
purchased in Utah.
Vehicle must be registered before the expiration of any
movement permit issued.
Odometer Statement - Ensure the dealer completes this
statement on the title or certificate of origin on vehicles 9
years old or newer. The original copy of a separate statement
is also acceptable.

Private party vehicle sales that occur on or after January 1, 2006, are exempt from Sales Taxes. Taxes are paid to DMV on sales in 2005 or earlier.
Vehicle must be registered within 30 days of the purchase.

New residents must transfer their out of state driver's license within 30 days and register the vehicle at the same time. If you are not transferring a license, the vehicle must registered within 60 days. See our New Resident Guide at www.dmvnv.com.

You must visit a DMV
Full Service Office to register
a vehicle. VIN inspections and vehicle appraisals are done at DMV offices. At
larger offices, drive to the inspection station outside the main
office first.

Liability Insurance Requirements
You must obtain insurance from a Nevada Licensed Insurance Carrier and maintain the coverage for the entire time the vehicle is registered in Nevada. Out-of-state insurance is not accepted.
After you register your vehicle, insurance coverage will be verified electronically with your insurance company. The name and vehicle information on your vehicle registration and your insurance policy must match.
Motorists who do not maintain Nevada liability insurance are subject to a registration suspension and $250 reinstatement fee.
You must keep a Nevada Evidence of Insurance Card in your vehicle at all times.

Emissions Inspections
Smog checks are required on all gasoline and diesel powered cars and trucks, 1968 and newer, based in most areas of Las Vegas and Reno. New vehicles are exempt on their first and second registration.
Diesel vehicles with a manufacturers gross vehicle weight rating over 10,000 pounds are exempt. Call (702) 486-4981 in Las Vegas or (775) 684-3580 in Reno.
