Forest Service Grants to Aid
Underserved Students

VANCOUVER, WA - Inner city youth and underserved students will benefit from four grants announced today by the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

The grants, totaling $52,400, were awarded for projects to reach underserved youth and integrate student education through activities that take place in various locations around the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The grants come from the Forest Service's Conservation Education program.

All of the proposals leverage federal dollars with matches from various partners.

Partners for these projects include: Washington State University; the Mount St. Helens Institute; Cowlitz County; Educational Service District 112; Portland area colleges and universities; the White Pass School District; USDA Coalition of Minority Employees; Vancouver Parks and Recreation; Trout Lake Bird Guild; Wolftree; Blazers Boys and Girls Club; Kiwanis Vancouver Boulevard Club; federal and state agencies; Vancouver Chapter NAACP; Community African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church; and local businesses, companies and private individuals.
