Mount St. Helens Institute Seeks Student Volcano ExplorersAMBOY, WA – The Mount St. Helens Institute is seeking 4th, 5th or 6th grade classrooms to participate in the Volcano Explorers program. Funded by a grant from the U.S.D.A. Forest Service, this 3 month long pilot program will introduce elementary age, low income, and/or urban students to the fascinating scientific studies occurring at the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. The program includes: curriculum
specifically designed to correspond to teachers’ planned activities,
classroom visits by renowned MSH scientists and Volcano docents, a teacher’s
copy of Will
It Blow by Elizabeth Rusch, field trips including a culminating trip
to the Johnston Ridge Visitors Center, and $500 per school to offset field
trip transportation expenses. Activities will begin in March and will
be completed in May or June. ###
