FedBizOpps - "An Innovative IT Accomplishment"

Posted October 1, 2003

GSA received an award for its state-of-the art information technology application to present federal contract opportunities. In September, the FedBizOpps website received a 2003 Government Computer News Award for Innovative IT Accomplishments.

GSA was recognized for operating, maintaining, and enhancing www.FedBizOpps.gov, the federal website that publishes agency requests for products and services valued above $25,000. GSA was one of 120 government organizations in the Government Computer News competition.

FedBizOpps offers federal buyers and vendors enhanced ability to post and retrieve information to meet their needs. Site statistics attest to its success to date. It:

  • Records more than 30 million hits each month.
  • Sends more than 250,000 e-mails daily to vendors who ask to be notified of solicitations in their fields.
  • Posts more than 480,000 solicitation documents.

The award reflects President Bush's E-Government efforts to harness the Internet and related technologies to make government more effective at lower costs to the taxpayer.
It is also a good example of the teamwork and professionalism essential to achieving E-Government objectives.
