Description: The theme for the observance will be "Celebrating Pioneers - Standing on the Shoulders From the Past." Roger Wilkins, LL.B., writer, historian, and civil rights activist, will serve as the keynote speaker. He has a distinguished journalism career and has written for both the New York Times and The Washington Post. While on the editorial page staff of The Washington Post, he shared a Pulitzer Prize in 1972 for Watergate coverage with Woodward, Bernstein and Herblock.

Also, as part of the program, Mr. Bill Grimmett will perform as a character actor portraying Benjamin Banneker, the African American scientist, astrologer and surveyor of the Nation's capital.
