Woody Biomass Utilization

About Us

Woody Biomass Utilization Team

The Woody Biomass Utilization Team is an interdisciplinary team that promotes and facilitates the planning and delivery of an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to the recovery and utilization of woody biomass from ecological restoration and hazardous fuels reduction work as a result of the National Fire Plan’s 10-Year Comprehensive Strategy, the Healthy Forests Initiative, and the Healthy Forest Restoration Act.

Biomass and Bioenergy Coordinator

The Biomass and Bioenergy Coordinator responsibilities include helping to integrate existing biomass efforts across Forest Service Deputy Areas and within the USDA and to serve as the primary agency policy lead with the Department of the Interior, Department of Energy, and the Western Governor’s Association on biomass energy policy issues. The Biomass and Bioenergy Coordinator also works to find innovative ways to derive economic and ecosystem benefits from under-utilized woody biomass, which is an integral part of the Healthy Forests Initiative and Healthy Forest Restoration Act.

For more information, visit the Office of the Chief - Biomass and Bioenergy Coordinator web page.

Field Coordinators

Field coordinators have been designated at each of the National Forest Regions and Research Stations to coordinate woody biomass utilization efforts throughout the Forest Service.
