Mississippi Sandhill Crane NWR was established to protect the endangered Mississippi sandhill crane and its unique and disappearing habitat.

Additionally, the refuge is recognized as an "Important Bird Area" for resident and neotropical migrants. The refuge is also home to many other mammals, plants, amphibians, reptiles, fish and invertebrates.

You are requested to report sightings of species not on our checklist or if they are listed as rare or accidental.
