Department of Defense

The Department of Defense (DoD)  Exiting EPA (disclaimer)was created in 1949 and includes the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. The DoD operates from over 6000 locations using more than 30 million acres and more than 600,000 buildings and structures in 146 countries. The DoD formulates national security/defense policy and is engaged in warfighting, humanitarian and peacekeeping efforts, evacuation, and homeland security. The DoD provides the military forces needed to deter war and to protect the security of the United States.
