Abstract: Acute abdominal pain is a common complaint of patients coming to a primary care physician. A primary objective of the initial patient evaluation is to determine if the presentation requires emergency evaluation and therapy. This chapter on acute abdominal pain is from a book that focuses on the most common gastroenterological problems encountered in a primary practice setting. The chapter is organized to support rapid access to the information necessary to evaluate and treat most patients with this problems.
