Water Resources of the United States

Water Webserver Team

Hi! We're the team that runs the water.usgs.gov webserver, which brings you water-resources information from the U.S. Geological Survey.

We're located at USGS Headquarters in Reston, Virginia, and assisted by webmasters at about 65 other USGS sites.

We are:

  • David Boldt is our team leader and maintains the software scripts that serve our pages and handles other "techie" responsibilities.
  • Terry Maluk manages web page usage statistics and provides other assistance to webmasters.
  • Kim Martz helps to keep our pages up to date, answers most of the feedback and is working to improve water related search results for the USGS search engine.
  • Carole Marlow helps handle the feedback messages that come in through the water pages and Ask USGS.
  • Krishna Sarma keeps our pages up to date for ongoing hydrologic events, like floods, and works with our cyber seminar series.
  • Steve Zehl is our Unix System Administrator and keeps the system running.

We want to hear from you! User feedback plays in big role in how our site develops. Let us know if you like our pages or you have a suggestion how we can do something better. The feedback form will let you send electronic mail to our team. We try to acknowledge email within 2 working days, and to cover for each other when on travel or vacation.

Some questions are better answered by local experts, here are a few direct contacts to save us all time:

  • important For questions about a particular streamflow record, contact the USGS State Representative for the state where the gage is located. (Our form lets you do this.) Please! We have records for more than 19,000 stations on line. The State Representatives are far better prepared than we are to answer local questions. Asking the h2o Team questions like, "Why does the streamflow data for the Mud River in Illinois end in 1993?" only delays a response while we forward your email.
  • For general questions about water resources, earth science, or the USGS you can send email to Ask USGS.
  • For questions about a specific page, look at the bottom of the page for the address of the person responsible, and contact them. (If there's no name, or you don't get a response, let us know!)

We hope you find these pages helpful and informative!
