Acquired from Dr. Thomas Sweeney and his wife Karen in August 2005, the museum is home to over 5,000 artifacts pertaining to the Trans-Mississippi Theatre of the Civil War. It is the largest collection in the United States dealing with the war west of the Mississippi River.
Significant items include the flag of the Confederate Cherokee Braves, a spyglass used by abolitionist John Brown during his raid on Harpers Ferry, and the sword belt and sash of Arkansas Confederate General Patrick Cleburne.
A scavenger hunt is available for younger visitors.
