Renewable energy is defined as energy that comes from infinite resources or resources that naturally regenerate over time. Renewable energy resources include solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, and hydroelectric resources.

As a part of its mission, the State Energy Program promotes energy information, program support, and access to federal funding for renewable energy initiatives in Utah. This mission is accomplished by providing the public, private industry, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies with forums for information exchange, objective research, and technical assistance.
