The Path to Community Change
March 26, 2009, 1-2 pm EDT

We all want to make a difference and change the world, but how realistic is that? Environmental strategies are prevention approaches that can change the environment in which substance abuse and abuse occur. They bring together community conditions, standards, institutions, structures, systems, and policies. The notion is, a person's decision to use substances is influenced buy the people and the environment around them. Changing or altering those can make a big difference. During this hour-long CADCA-TV broadcast, learn how environmental strategies work and why they shouldn't be attempted alone or without careful planning.

Getting Heard Through All Media Channels
May 28, 2009, 1-2 pm EDT

When it comes to preventing teen substance abuse, raising awareness of drug-related issues in the community is key. One of the best ways to do that is to get the word out through media channels, such as TV, radio, newspapers and the Internet. But, how we used to do things isn't good enough anymore. We need to twitter, blog, podcast, and utilize social norms campaigns. But as the media landscape changes, we can't ignore television, radio, and newspapers. During this hour-long CADCA-TV broadcast, learn how to be everywhere and how to get the word out in places you might not have thought of, without ignoring the old faithful forms of media outreach and marketing.

The War Within: Helping Returning Veterans
July 23, 2009, 1-2 pm EDT

Everyone is happy when a member of our armed forces returns home after a deployment. Often when the excitement wears off, stress and post-traumatic stress take its place. Sometimes, people turn to drugs in an attempt to relieve their pain. Some even resort to violence.

As veterans return to their everyday lives, the stigma of seeking help sometimes keeps people from reaching out. Communities need to learn how best to help veterans deal with what they went through. Some military programs can help, but our vets need more. During this hour-long CADCA-TV broadcast, see how the military is working with coalitions in some military communities. Learn how other communities can use what works, even if there is no military installation nearby.

Recovering From Addiction: The Kids' Perspective
August 27, 2009, 1-2 pm EDT

Addiction doesn’t happen to just “bad kids.” No child or family is exempt from this disease and often denial is the biggest problem. Learn from a few teens who discuss their experiences in the world of addiction and now focus on the challenges of recovery. Hear from teens themselves who know all too well how the disease of addiction can begin and how it can be avoided. Learn more about how recovery can take someone who was on the verge of death to being the best person they could possibly be. See how parents, teachers and communities can educate themselves about what the warning signs of experimentation and addiction are.

Countering the Drug Culture
September 24, 2009, 1-2 pm EDT

Whether it’s the movie depicting kids getting high or the commercial showing beautiful people drinking wine coolers, drugs and alcohol are seemingly everywhere in mainstream culture. As we all know, this only hurts our cause, by glorifying exactly what we’re telling kids not to do and making light of the problem. So, just how do you counter the drug culture? During this hour-long CADCA-TV broadcast, we'll take a look at how one city is turning a day notorious for marijuana smoking into an anti-drug day. See how coalitions are addressing the alcohol and drug normalization initiatives. Find out how some in the entertainment industry are trying to show the reality of drug use instead of the glamorization.
