Canaan Valley Refuge Hosts First Annual Media Day
Region 5, February 23, 2005
On February 23, representatives from several different newspapers arrived at Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge for its first annual media day. Joining us were reporters and photographers from The Parsons Advocate, The Charleston Gazette, The Intermountain, and The Moorefield Examiner. The media day was designed to introduce ourselves, to show what the refuge looks like and to inform the media about the Service's mission in Canaan Valley.

During the morning we we discussed biology, habitat, law enforcement, and public use with a PowerPoint presentation. Members of The Friends of the 500th, a refuge support group, were there to greet the representatives and to provide breakfast. Afterwards, we toured one of the most popular public use trails, Freeland Trail. We also took participants to the top of Forest Road 80 for a view of the valley.

It was a great event, with much support contributed by the staff and members of the Friends.
