Wildland Fire
Wildland fire has great potential to change
park landscapes more often than volcanoes, earthquakes
or even floods. Such forces of change are completely
natural.
Structural Fire
Part of the NPS mission to protect the resources entrusted to its management, including buildings and structures, irreplaceable cultural resources, valuable property and infrastructure.
Aviation
Aviation resources provide land managers with specialized
tools to accomplish management objectives efficiently,
effectively and safely when other means are unavailable.
National Fire Plan
A cooperative, long-term effort of the USDA Forest Service, Department of the Interior and the National Association of State Foresters to manage the impact of wildland fire.
Ecology
Fire ecology is a branch of ecology that focuses on the origins of wildland fire and its relationship to the environment that surrounds it, both living and non-living.
Prescribed Fire In most parks, prescribed fires are used to manage vegetation instead of lightning-caused fires.
Burned
Area Emergency Response (BAER)
The Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) program addresses
situations of protecting life, property, water quality,
and deteriorated ecosystems from further damage after
the fire is out.
