Summer Internship Program

Internship Program History

For the last thirteen years, the Central California Consortium (CCC) has played an important role in developing a culturally diverse talented workforce for the USDA Forest Service. Since the program was implemented in 1997, over 800 students have been placed in USDA positions through STEP, SCEP, and CIP hiring authorities. Our efforts have helped to increase multicultural diversity in the Forest Service by reaching out to diverse, talented, and eager students in our community.

In 2006, the CCC was expanded to create the Northern CA Consortium (NCC) and Southern CA Consortiums (SCC).Thus, the new California Consortium (CC) was created. The CC aims to inform and educate youth about natural resources and environmental science while encouraging student’s interest in higher education and natural resource careers. In the spirit of this mission, the CC helps to place qualified students into internship opportunities with the Forest Service and other natural resources agencies. In 2008 the California Consortium (CCC, NCC, and SCC) hired a combined total of over 130 students into STEP, SCEP, and CIP positions throughout Region 5 and nearby states in many different fields.
